Project Matrix- Project 1
Project 1
Architectural precedent: Artscience Museum (Safdie
Architects - Moshe Safdie, 2011)
Key Concept:
The
shape concept of this museum is related to the connection of building and
nature. The whole building with the landscape shows the situation of the lotus in
the pool by imitating the shape of lotus and its petals. The architect uses the
Biomimicry into the building that represents or has the efficient performance
by selecting the feature of nature such as the light and water.
Selected Design elements:
Its
petal envelope and the supporting structure
How is the Key Concept Reflected in
the Form of the Selected Design Element?
By imitating the nature of lotus, this building creates
a connection between the building and nature such as how the rain collection
creates a rainfall. The design concept of the petal structure with different
height level can collect the sunlight in different angle. Also, the shape of
the envelope can collect the rainwater and transform to the centre hole which
is with the supporting structure and create a rainfall. The supporting
structure can support the different heights of the petal envelopes.
Geometrical Description of the Shape
The
shape of the building is related to the lotus petals that each petals with
different heights and curves in
different directions. In the centre of the buildings, it has a supporting
structure with the columns to support the petal like structure
