Project Matrix- Project 2
Project 2
Architectural precedent: Watercube (PTW Architects, 2008)
Key Concept:
As that building was built
for the swimming race of Olympic game, the building represents a concept of
‘water cube’ which reflects the nature of water through the bubble structure.
In addition, the structure of this swimming centre includes the concept of
efficient energy, ecologically friendly and visually striking.
Selected Design element
Façade
system and structure
How is the Key Concept Reflected in
the Form of the Selected Design Element?
The
façade system reflected the key concept through its shape. For the high
performance, the transparent façade can maximise the natural light and thermal
heart. The shape is referred to the bubble and the transparent material
that represent the nature of water. At night, the blue lighting from the
building enhances the image of water nature (shown as the picture at the top).
Geometrical Description of the Shape
The
building form is a cube that its façade is constructed with the bubble shape.
